Origin: Hokkien, Ah Beng is the hokkien pronunciation of the chinese name 阿明.

Ah Beng is used stereotypically to describe a young hooligan/gangster that is intimidating, materialistic and not so good in his studies.

The Chinese word “明” is commonly used as the 3rd word for a Chinese name. In its dialect form, it is spelled and pronounced as “beng”

Ah Beng is commonly associated with his “friends” Ah Seng, Ah Lian and Ah Huay and they are often used together to describe a group of young punks.
