Origin: Malay, to describe a place that is remote or deserted.

Ulu is commonly used to describe a place that is remote, deserted, abandoned with little human traffic.

It is also used for Singapore road names like “Ulu Pandan” and “Jalan Ulu Siglap”.

Adjective:

Darling ah, why did you bring me to such an ulu place for picnic? There is no toilet here and I don’t even see a single human other than us….. “
