Origin: Malay, a term to describe a person’s deliberate absence from an event, truancy by skipping school, work, etc.

Ponteng is a malay word to describe skipping an event, especially used for truancy in which the malay phrase “ponteng sekolah” means “skipping school”.

Verb:

“Eh Ah Beng, tomorrow I need to ponteng from school….because I want to send my girlfriend off at the airport.”
