Makan
Origin: Malay – literal translation “to eat”
Makan is a very commonly used word in Singapore. It is used to ask people if they have eaten or to invite them to eat. It is similar to the hokkien/teochew dialect word “jiak“.

Ah Beng: Thanks Ahmad, I will makan later cos I have a lot of backlog to clear.
