Origin: Hokkien – This word literally means smelly.

Chao simply means smelly and it is such a versatile word that can be strung with other hokkien and even english words to form an expression.

Adjective:

Singlish: “I dislike Ah Beng’s “chao kuan”...he this kind of “chao turtle” always makes me curse “chao chee bye” at him.

English: “I dislike Ah Beng’s “bad attitude”...he is such a “bastard” and always makes me curse “smelly vagina/pussy” at him.
