BMT – Basic Military Training

Origin: acronym – BMT Stands for Basic Military Training

Basic Military Training is the first training that every Singaporean male will go through upon enlistment.

The duration is either a  9-week training for combat fit recruits or a 17-week training for recruits who did not pass their physical fitness test prior to enlistment.

BMT is usually conducted in Pulau Tekong, an offshore island situated off the north-east coast of Singapore. There are also mono-intake recruits who join BMT in camps located on Singapore main island.  During the training, recruits will be taught on physical training, weapon handling and firing, field camps, individual field craft, route marches, national education, etc.
